When you're moving onward with the momentum of a 36 game win streak, you know every team you face is going to bring their A-game to try to knock you off. That's exactly what a big, physical Elk City team did when Heritage Hall rolled into town, but the upset-minded Elks might not have been the biggest challenge on the night.

The Chargers had managed to stay undefeated through the first 9 games, posting big wins over John Marshall, Clinton, and Cache. But the cumulative physical toll was starting to show in the regular season finale and Coach Bogert's squad would have to overcome varying levels of injury to close out a second straight undefeated season.

Elk City threatened to score midway through the first quarter, getting as close as the HH 5 yard line, but consecutive tackles for loss by Jack Ross and Grayson Wilson brought up 3rd and long. Elks quarterback Gage Porter mishandled the 3rd down snap and barely beat Dawson Evans to the loose ball. The ensuing field goal kick sailed wide right and the Chargers got the ball back.

Junior tailback Morgan Dinwiddie helped the Charger offense get rolling with a couple of hard runs late in the first quarter. After getting to the red zone, the Chargers traded fumbles with the Elks. When the clock ran out on the first quarter, the game was still scoreless.

Early in the 2nd quarter, Blake Adams connected with Conner Carey over the middle on a 54 yard pass that set up an Evans 1-yard touchdown run on the next play to give the Chargers a 6-0 lead. Evans would finish with 6 carries for 71 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night.

With 4 minutes left in the half, Adams connected with Zane Wade on a 3-yard out route for a touchdown to stretch the lead to 12-0. However, the Elks answered with a 65-yard scramble by Porter to cut the lead to 12-7 and let the Chargers know they wouldn't go down easily.

On the ensuing drive, Adams scrambled on a long run of his own, but fell hard on his left shoulder and left the game with a broken first rib. Freshman Will Dunn took the helm and led the Chargers the rest of the way, but it was Dinwiddie and Carey that stepped up to put away the game.

Carey rushed 5 times for 54 yards, but scored on a 67-yard screen pass from Dunn to give Heritage Hall a much more comfortable 19-7 halftime lead. Behind a great second half push by the offensive line, Dinwiddie racked up 204 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

Evans led the defensive charge with 16 tackles, 9 of those solo, and 2 sacks. Ross and Michael McLaughlin notched double-figures with 10 tackles each to help The Hall close out a 46-14 victory and cap a second straight undefeated regular season. With his 25th career win, Coach Brett Bogert remains undefeated.

The road to a 3rd straight Gold Ball isn't going to be smooth. These travelers are worn, and the road ahead is treacherous with battle tested foes, but these Chargers love a good challenge – and they'll be ready.

Let the playoffs begin!
