ORIGINS OF A CHARGER HERO
Heritage Hall's beloved mascot is a navy and gold charger horse named Lightning. In 2008, leadership proposed the school adopt a living mascot and subsequently held a naming contest for the Lower School students. Students in grades PK through 4th submitted their ideas, which were narrowed to three choices by the Heritage Hall School Patrons' Association (HHSPA), and then the kids voted. The winning entry was LIGHTNING! The costume was designed and purchased by the HHSPA and has been taken care of by the Heritage Hall Pep Club since 2013.
WHO IS LIGHTNING?
The current mascot's identity is a closely kept secret, guarded by the Pep Club Sponsors and select Pep Club members past and present. The only certainty is that a student is under the Lightning costume. The mascot's social media accounts are managed by the current student(s) playing Lightning. In addition to sporting events, Lightning has been know to crash Lower School's "Charger Shine" on Friday mornings, plays a huge role in Kickoff Week, and frequents Upper School pep rallies, assemblies, Senior Nights, and Homecoming events. Lightning has starred in a few ChargerVision productions and occasionally checks in on social media (Instagram
@hh_lightning).
