Chargers Roast Chicks for Sixth Straight Win

Coming into this week, most could have predicted that the Chargers would roll over the winless Fighting Chicks. Though the outcome of the game was never in doubt, Coach Bogert and the team saw this as a great opportunity to find a groove before facing stiffer competition down the road. Though no one doubted that the Chargers would be on top by the conclusion of Friday night's road dual, some expected the visitors to come out of the gates flat, playing down to their opponent for the first couple possessions. However, from the first snap, The Hall silenced those rumors and put together an impressive start.

The Chargers did whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, all night versus the Chicks. This was evident in the great diversity between the run and the pass game, as The Hall's play calls kept the Chicks guessing all night. The scoring got started off with slot receiver Zane Wade grabbing his first touchdown of the year on a 10-yard strike from Blake Adams. Chandler Shapard then got in on the fun with a 9-yard receiving touchdown from Adams. Before the quarter was over, Billy Ross, Jr., had sprinted to a 57-yard score. With three touchdowns and three extra points by senior Garrett McGinnis, the Chargers found themselves up 21-0 after the first 12 minutes.

The second quarter was equally successful for the Chargers, as they continued to dominate Chickasha. Conner Carey was on the receiving end of a 7 yard touchdown pass from Adams to extend the lead to 28-0. Shapard continued his hot play, finding pay dirt two more times to finish the half. Shapard's touchdowns were 6 and 5 yards out, and were both tossed by Blake Adams. The Chargers showcased a nearly perfect first half – the defense was holding onto a shutout bid and the offense had accumulated 42 points.

The second half in southwest Oklahoma was played by mostly by the backups and nothing too eventful took place. The Charger offense could not get anything going and the defense continued to play well, with the exception of a long touchdown pass by the Chicks in the fourth quarter. The Chicks also took a fumble to the house in the fourth frame, finishing the night with 14 points. The Hall played a very impressive game and came out with a decisive 42-14 road victory.

Blake Adams had perhaps his best game of the season, as he finished 17/27 with 179-yards and 5 touchdowns. Adams main target was Shapard, as he finished the night with an impressive 6 catches for 58-yards and three scores, all before the half. Ross, Jr., showed his explosiveness, rushing for 89-yards and a score on just 3 carries. On defense, Phillip Smitherman lead the team in tackles with 10.

The Chargers roasted the Chicks and continued their undefeated 2017 campaign. Other than the win, the next biggest news of the night came when we learned Blake Adams moved into 2nd All time in career passing touchdowns, (71) now just trailing Charger legend Graham Colton '00 (72) by one touchdown. The senior QB also moved into second place in all-time passing yardage, but needs a daunting 1,878 to catch Colton.

The Chargers now must prepare for the Elgin Owls on a short week, with kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on Thursday night. As all district games are immensely important, the Chargers will have a big week of practice as they prepare for the high octane offense of the Owls, who scored 72 last week against Newcastle.
