Mother Nature claims victory in Chargers-Wolves game

Coming off last week's win over Clinton, the Chargers were excited and ready to face the Davis Wolves in a Friday road contest. The scouting report indicated that Davis would be a smaller team than the Chargers had faced in the first two games of the season and that the Wolves would still run their traditional wishbone offense.

As The Hall arrived to an already soaked Wolves Field, the weather conditions worsened and the rain began to fall.

The Chargers started the first quarter off with a quick touchdown run by Phillip Smitherman, who followed a group of downfield blockers to make it 7-0.

Davis did not get the chance to make a comeback. Shortly after the first quarter ended, Mother Nature struck with multiple lightning bolts – and the game was delayed 30 minutes. With a heavy rain falling, lightning strike after lightning strike caused the delay time to be extended. At approximately 9:15pm, with a second wave of storms moving in, the teams agreed to cancel the game with no official winner. The Hall certainly looked like they were heading toward securing another victory to move to 3-0.

There is no date set to resume or replay this game, so the Chargers will put this road contest in the rear view mirror and move onward.

The Hall travels to The Mount in Week 4 to face Mount Saint Mary. The Chargers have only played the Rockets a few times during the past decade, winning all three contests. Last year, Heritage Hall grounded the Rockets 34-2. The only Mount Saint Mary points came on an errant punt snap out that rolled out of the end zone.

Thursday night's game will be the district 3A-1 opener for both teams...go Chargers!
