Prior to coming to Heritage Hall, Coach Champney led a top flight program at Shelby High School (North Carolina). During his 16 seasons there, John led the Golden Lions to a total of 16 conference titles and three regional titles. He was voted SMAC Conference Coach of the Year eight times for the boys' program and 10 times for the girls' squad. In addition to his coaching, Champney also serves as Heritage Hall's instrumental music director.
