Trunk or Treat. Senior Night. 35-game home winning streak. District title on the line. Rivalry game.

It was high school football nirvana under the Friday night lights at Charger Stadium as Kingfisher visited Heritage Hall for a Week 9 showdown.

The Chargers wasted no time making a statement. Senior running back Brigham Evans rushed through a hole created by Gavin Wilson and Eddie Johnston, followed a lead block by Zach Fetrow, and raced 58 yards to paydirt. Coach Brett Bogert elected to go for two points, and Gavin Freeman swept around the right side to put The Hall up 8-0.

With Kingfisher quarterback Jax Sternberger out due to injury, the Charger defense teed up on his substitute, converted wide receiver Slade Snodgrass, and forced the Jackets to punt on their first drive.

Senior quarterback Will Paque sold the play action to Evans and lofted the ball deep to the middle of the field, finding Freeman in stride for a 69-yard score. With all the momentum early, Heritage Hall lined up for another two-point conversion attempt. Paque rolled out to his left and found a wide open Liam Burton to put the Chargers up 16-0 midway through the first quarter.

The Charger defense held again, and Kingfisher was forced to punt on 4th and one.

Paque found his tight end Cooper Cookson in the flat, and the junior rumbled down the sideline for 44 yards. Passes to Freeman, Orie Walker, and Burton had The Hall knocking on the doorstep again. The Kingfisher defense made a goal line stand and senior kicker Luke Butler came on to knock in a 24-yard field goal for a 19-0 lead.

Determined to rush the ball, Kingfisher continued to pound the ball into a stout Charger defensive line without any success. The Chargers began their fourth possession on the Kingfisher side of the ball.

After an 8 yard loss to start the drive, Coach Bogert called a timeout and set up a play the Chargers scored on during the previous week at Anadarko. Paque faked a quick pass to Freeman and then floated a pass deep over the middle to a wide open Cookson who scored from 54 yards out. Butler came on to kick the extra point and extend the home team's lead to 26-0.

Penalties and dropped passes derailed the Jackets next offensive drive, along with a sack by Brigham Evans, and the visitors were forced to punt again.

Now on the offensive side of the ball, Evans continued to make big plays busting through the line for a 40-yard rushing touchdown and a 33-0 lead.

Another Kingfisher three-and-out returned the ball to the Chargers, and Freeman returned the punt 19 yards to give the Chargers another short field. A few plays later, Paque and Freeman connected on another scoring play, this time a 15-yard touchdown pass. The Chargers had scored 40 unanswered points in the first half, and took that comfortable lead into the locker room after the Kingfisher offense churned up the remaining clock with inside runs.

The quarterback sweep finally worked for the Yellowjackets midway through the third quarter when Snodgrass darted 40 yards to Kingfisher's first score.

With a 40-7 lead, Coach Bogert began to insert younger players into the lineup and sophomore running back Jaxon Carter scored his first career touchdown on a 17-yard run to extend the lead to 47-7. Senior kicker Luke Butler tacked on a 35-yard field goal in the 4th quarter to seal a 50-7 victory. Butler is now 5 of 5 on field goals this season, and a perfect 8 of 8 for his career.

Paque led the passing attack, completing 11 of 12 passes for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns. Evans led the ground attack with 109 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 4 carries. Cookson tallied 91 receiving yards to lead the team, while Freeman caught 5 passes for 89 yards and 2 scores.

With Kingfisher running the ball over 90% of the time, several Chargers had significant tackle numbers on the night. Cookson recorded 20 tackles including 7 for losses from his linebacker position. Mason Georgia recorded 15 tackles, including 2 more sacks; "Peaches" now has 20 career sacks, 6th best all-time. Fetrow came up huge with 14 tackles, including a sack and 3 tackles for loss. Burton also notched double-digits with 10 tackles on the night. The Charger defense made 20 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 6 sacks to derail the Jackets' ground game.

The win clinched the 8th consecutive District Championship for the Charger football program, and this year's squad extended the program's home win streak to 36 games (last home loss was in 2016 to Cascia Hall). Heritage Hall will hit the road for a short trip to Mount St. Mary to close out the regular season. The Rockets are 4-4 this year, and 2-2 in District play. The Hall is 27-2 all-time against The Mount, carrying a 15-game win streak over the Rockets (last loss was in 1992).

With a victory, the Chargers can cap off another perfect regular season and build momentum heading into the playoffs, likely to host the first two rounds. Thursday night football against the Rockets will be livestreamed on ChargerVision at hhchargers.tv with kickoff slated for 7pm.

Onward, Chargers!
