A valuable member of the 1999 State Championship team, Derrick was an outstanding hitter and pitcher.  Through 2005, he ranked among the top five in several different categories, including most RBI in a season (45) and in a career (124), most grand slam home runs in a season/career (2), most doubles in a season (15) and in a career (35), and most hits in a season (49).  As a pitcher, his 84 strikeouts in 1999 and his 191 for a career rank 3rd on those record lists.
